Sailability NSW

Sailability Rushcutters Bay (SRB) was established in April 1999 to manage and operate the first Salvo Class (Payne 7) yacht, Independence. This yacht was designed and built with disabled people in mind through a Work-For-The-Dole program. Shortly after, SRB took delivery of a second Salvo, Intrepid, which was built under the same program. SRB was granted permission to base its yachts at the Legacy Marina built by the NSW Government in Rushcutters Bay for the Sydney 2000 Olympics and Paralympics.

SRB's aim is to provide sailing opportunities for people with various abilities. SRB caters for all levels of abilities and age groups, from children to the elderly and everyone in between.

Unlike all other Sailability NSW Branches SRB does not sail Access Dinghies also known as Hansas.

At Rushcutters Bay we sail a Sonar and two Salvos.

Our Sonar, Mid Wicket, is a Paralympic Class yacht capable of sailing with a crew of 4 whilst the two Salvos, Independence and Intrepid, are 7.4 metre yachts able to fit up to eight crew each.

We sail around Sydney Harbour all year round, in competitive racing, social and introductory sailing levels.

Anyone with an interest in sailing regardless of sailing ability or knowledge is welcome to join in the fun.

SRB is staffed entirely by volunteers, including able-bodied members, who play an integral role in the club`s sailing programs and other activities.

One of our key activities is our group sails. This involves disability service providers who bring groups of clients each week for a couple of hour sail on the harbour. This activity is only limited by the number of volunteer skippers and crew that we have to assist. If you would like to help out get in touch.
