David Pescud awarded Order of Australia Medal

In 1994, David founded Sailors with disABILITIES, now known as Making Waves Foundation.

That year, he put together the first ever fully disabled crew to compete in a Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. The Making Waves Foundation has since competed in 20 Sydney Hobarts.

More than 2,500 people take part in Making Waves Foundation programs each year, with 64,000 people benefitting from the organisation’s work since 1994.

David has been recognised for his contributions to the sport of sailing and improving the lives of people with disabilities. He has received the National Pride of Australia Medal (2014), NSW Disability Industry Innovation Distinguished Service Award (2015), Sports NSW’s Distinguished Long Service Award (2016) and Lifetime Achievement Award from Australian Sailing (2022).

David, is a RANSA  Member and co owner of the Etchells Just 2 Funny on the hard stand, and as neighbours RANSA has worked closely with MWF over the years.
