Vale Leo Schultz

RANSA is saddened by the passing of Honorary Life Member and previous Commodore Leo Schultz.A member since 1991, Leo was Commodore from 2002 – 2006 and again in 2011 - 2012.

A tribute from someone who knew him well:

Leo was an engaging man with a lot of presence. He could seem to be a bit gruff at first, but that soon passed as you got to know him. I first met him many, many years ago when he and his Kettle Chips business were clients of mine. When Leo was appointed Commodore of RANSA in 1999, he heralded the greatest change in our existence by building the ‘new’ office, clearing out rows of mostly unused dinghies, and creating the Quarterdeck. This set RANSA on course for a long and beneficial future. I was privileged to have been on the board with Leo as Commodore. I learned a lot from him - don’t let anything stand in your way, don’t take no for an answer, and get it done now! Leo was again Commodore for a year between my two terms.

Leo’s racing on Carmen also benefited from his management style. His enthusiastic crew, including Jenny Barrett, wife of VADM Tim Barrett, were hard to beat on the water. Leo was ably supported by Mary in his on and off-water endeavours, including caravanning around Australia and across our other oceans - the desert.

Fair winds and following seas.

Adrian Gruzman

Life Vice Commodore, RANSA

RANSA extends our thanks to a long-standing member and contributor to the club and our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Leo decided he did not want a funeral.
